While the national capital New Delhi is struggling with poor air quality, the Supreme Court announced a ban of firecrackers across the country. The top court reminded about its 2021 order of allowing the usage of green firecrackers. The court said that it is the duty of every individual to protect the environment. The Supreme Court in 2021 said that the use of firecrackers containing Barium salts is banned but the rules are violated across the country. The top court heard a petiton seeking the directions to the government of Rajasthan and asked everyone to follow the 2021 orders. The firecrackers containing barium salts and other harmful, polluting chemicals are banned told the top court.

The bench headed by Justices AS Boppana and MM Sundresh announced the same. In 2018, Supreme Court announced time slots to burn crackers. They are between 8 PM to 10 PM during Diwali and 11:55 PM to 12:30 AM during Christmas and New Year. The Supreme Court clarified that the new rule should be implemented in all the states of the country. The Supreme Court called up every citizen to be responsible and prevent air, noise pollution during Diwali. The air quality index in New Delhi crossed 400 and is very poor from the past few days.
