Rajasthan Forms A Panel To Inquire Infant Deaths In Banswara

Rajasthan Government on Thursday set up a three member committee to inquire about deaths of 86 children in 2 months in Banswara District Hospital.

The Banswara Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) said that the hospital has recorded deaths of 86 children who were less than One-month old in July-August period.

Banswara District is mainly a tribal area with a population of 20 lakhs, but there is only one government hospital in this area.He also said that the reasons for deaths varied from birth asphyxia, low weight to pneumonia and infections.

Health Minister Kali Charan Saraf directed district collector to make a detailed investigation and submit the report in three days, he also directed for setting up a three member departmental committee to look into the issue.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday criticized BJP Government in state over infant deaths through his tweets.

“A very sad news from Banswara, where almost 80 infants died in the span of 2 months in MG Hospital”.

He also said, “Most unfortunate that neither Mothers nor their new borns, suffering from Malnutrition are taken care of. These cases relate to most of the Adivasi women living in abject poverty”.

The Former CM said, Most Vulnerable sections are neglected the most  in BJP ruled states, Along with Uttar Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and Jharkand. the BJP government in Rajasthan also failed to save children lives.He even demanded that the Government has to take immediate steps to ensure proper care and nutrients for pregnant women in that area.
