Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spelled out NDA government's policy towards woman through President Pranab Mukherjee's speech on Monday. The NDA government will have a "zero tolerance" policy for crime against women. Besides, the new government has assured commitment to bring 33 % reservation for women in parliament and state legislatures.

President Pranab Mukherjee, while addressing a joint session of the parliament, said that the criminal justice system will be strengthened to bring effective implementation of laws that are crucial in curbing violence against women.

The goverment's policy to tackle crime against women comes in the backdrop of the Badaun gang-rape and murder case. Last month, two two teenaged girls were gang raped and hanged from a tree in Badaun in Uttar Pradesh. The entire nationwide has been shocked and horrified in this latest incident of violence against women. This incident has left the entire world shocked and horrified at the plight of the two teenaged girls who went through the brutal rape followed by their gruesome murder.

The President stated that the present government is committed to "Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao" (Save Girl Child, Teach Girl Child). A mass campaign will be launched to save the girl child and help to educate her. The government will incorporate best practices from various states to develop a comprehensive scheme for the betterment of the girl child.

Refering to the Badaun rape and murder incident, the President said that the gruesome incident took place because of lack of toilets. The girls had gone to the fields to answer to nature's call. Mr Mukherjee highlighted the fact that almost 60 % of rural homes in India lack toilets, according to government reports.

So the government will launch a 'Swachh Bharat Mission' across the nation to ensure hygiene and sanitation. This project will be the government's  tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary in 2019.

For quick and efficient dispensation of justice, the government will modernize courts and bring reforms in the criminal justice system.

An efficient and quick delivery of cases related to crime against women will act as a deterrent to the violators of law. And ensuring toilets in every home will ensure the dignity and security of women living in rural and urban areas.
