The viscera report of Sunanda Pushkar, the deceased wife of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor's wife who was found dead in a hotel room under mysterious circumstances two months ago, indicates that she might have died of drug poisoning. However, the findings are still inconclusive to file an FIR, it seems.

"The CFSL report has not been able to give much headway into the probe. It rules out poisoning and hints toward drug poisoning," said a senior police official associated with the probe.

Both the experts and the police were hopeful that the viscera tests would reveal the nature of the poison and the quantity. Investigators now intend to approach a panel of doctors from he AIIMS that had done the autopsy of late Mrs. Pushkar to throw more light into the findings of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report.

On January 21, four days after Sunanda Pushkar was found dead, a sub-divisional magistrate had ordered the Delhi Police to investigate the case from both murder and suicide perspective, after autopsy report cited the death as "sudden and unnatural" caused by poisoning.

Sunanda, 52, was found dead in a 5-star hotel in South Delhi on January 17 night, a day after Twitter tiff with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over an alleged affair with her husband, Shashi Tharoor.

In the past, Sunanda's brother, son, Tharoor and his staff had issued statements to the police that the family member suspected no foul play.

The autopsy report, however mentioned over a dozen injury marks on Sunanda's both hands, an abrasion on her cheek and a "deep teeth bite" on the edge of her left palm.

Viscera samples mention two drugs - Alprazolam and Excedrin.

Initially, the probe into the case was handed over to the Crime Branch on January 23. However, it was later transferred back to the South District police on January 25.
