Congress candidate from Bangalore South, Nandan Nilekani has declared his assets with wife Rohini Nilekani to be worth Rs. 7,700 crore. The Infosys co-founder became a member of Congress on March 9, after being declared a candidate for the party.

The chief architect of 'Aadhar' scheme will face BJP's five-time Lok Sabha member Ananth Kumar in the 14th Lok Sabha elections.

Ananth Kumar declared his assets with his wife Tejaswani to be Rs. 4.4 crore, in an affidavit. The BJP leader declared self assets to be Rs. 51.12 lakh, while Tejaswani had assets worth of Rs. 3.86 crore.

Nilekani's media team, while making his wealth public, stated that he had started from a scratch and today he has assets worth Rs. 7700 crore with wife Rohini.

When he graduated from IIT he had only Rs. 200. They founded Infosys with Rs. 10,000, stated the media release.

According to Nilekani's declaration, almost 80 per cent of his assets is in Infosys shares. His personal wealth was created while bringing lakhs of jobs to Bengaluru. Besides, wealth of the company was also shared with employees through ESOPs (employee stock ownership plan), said Nilekani.

Nilekani owns 1.45 % of Infosys shares, while Rohini has 1.3 per cent of shares in Infosys. The Infosys co-founder stated that all his wealth is transparent, and tax-paid. And he has nothing hidden in a secret bank account.

Nandan and Rohini Nilekani are into philanthropy in the areas of education, water and governance. The couple have donated over Rs. 400 crore of their wealth since 1999.
