AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has resigned as Delhi chief minister after failing to pass its flagship Jan Lokpal bill in the assembly on Friday. In his resignation letter, Kejriwal recommended re-election for Delhi, paving the way for realising the party's dream of a larger role in the national stage.

Kejriwal's move seems to have two objectives, to return with an absolute majority in Delhi in case of re-election. The second objective is to free the AAP leader for campaigning as well as contesting the 2014 general elections.

AAP, which is a little more than a year-old, has pulled the plug in its own government with the hope that its sacrifice will pay off during the Lok Sabha elections and bring larger votes and more seats to the party. According to reports, the sacrifice of AAP will be exploited to the hilt both during the Delhi assembly re-polls as well as the general elections.

The resignation gamble was played with the hope to cash the AAP's 'sacrifice' for the Jan Lokpal along with the 'achievements' of the party during its 49-day rule in Delhi.

During his last speech in the Delhi assembly, Kejriwal stated that the AAP is not for posts but for change in the system that would bring back power to the people. He even accused the Congress and BJP of doing everything to stop the efforts of AAP.

The party's anti-corruption moves like ordering FIRs against a union minister and a powerful industrialist in gas scam along with its inability to table the Jan Lokpal are seen as rallying points to garner people's support for AAP.

Now that Kejriwal has resigned the AAP leaders are gearing up for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections with their chief to helm the campaigns. Some party volunteers have gone to the extent of comparing Arvind Kejriwal to BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
