MK Alagiri, former Union minister and DMK chief's older son has been suspended to maintain party discipline. According to reports, 62-year-old Alagiri had been creating confusion by asking party cadres not to work. Besides, he also critisized DMK's disciplinary action against some members, who had been indulging in anti-party activities.

Alagiri, who served as the organising secretary of DMK's south zone, was suspended in the 'interests of the party', said DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan in a statement to the media.
Alagiri's continuation in DMK 'would destroy the party discipline,' added Anbazhagan.

Alagiri and his brother MK Stalin are in a long tussle over the control of DMK, headed by their father M Karunanidhi.

The power tussle grew in intensity following suspension of five party workers by DMK's chief. The workers had put up posters in support of Alagiri. However, Alagiri dissociated himself from the decision of DMK.
