Samsung  introduced its premium range of smartwatches with the super-expensive Galaxy Gear, a pricey gadget sans any premium feel. But with the Gear 2, Samsung takes a slightly different  course. Powered by Tizen  for more battery life and new features like heart-rate monitor, a full metal body and customizable straps, the Gear 2 hopes to offer adds more value to the Samsung loyalist and how?

Well, the Gear 2 certainly looks a notch above the first Gear in terms of aesthetics and build. Also, the color palate of the straps is more subdued save for the orange shade. That the straps are detachable straps gives the watch an extra edge.

The stainless steel body looks premium and feels highly durable. Overall, the Gear 2 looks a bit more grown up than its predecessor. It’s comfortable to wear throughout the day as it’s not too heavy on the wrist.

The new watch gets a 1.6-inch Super AMOLED display. The panel has excellent touch sensitivity.

The Gear 2 inherits all the features of the Galaxy Gear and the Samsung Gear Fit, making it a robust feature set. It has an in-built speaker. Besides, the new gadget lets you measure your heart-rate, sleep cycle, exercise routine and keep a track of the steps you’ve walked. Other bundled apps include Media Controller, Music player, Schedule, stop watch, timer, voice memo, weather and WatchON remote.

The Gear 2 can also doubles up as a stand-alone music player with 4GB of onboard storage. The 2MP camera can record videos up to 720p as well as click pics. The long battery life is noteworthy.

Available for just Rs 21,550, the Gear 2 offers higher value in terms of features and performance. It looks and feels better, has a truck-load of features and makes a good companion for the fitness  fanatics.
