The going seems to be getting better and better for Sania Mirza and her doubles partner Cara Black, who crashed into the semifinals of the Portugal Open last night and advance to the next level of the game.
High on form and fitness, the top seeded pair grabbed a 6-3, 6-4 win over Silvia Soler-Espinosa and Shuai Zhang. The Indo-Zimbabwean team trounced the Spanish-Chinese pair in just one hour and nine minutes at the USD 250,000 clay court event at Sports Complex of Jamor.
Though Silvia and Shuai led the opponents in the first set, the top seeds responded by converting two of the seven break points they earned. The second set turned out to be even harder as there were a total of five service breaks. However, the Indian-Zimbabwean duo got the significant break needed to win the match.
They take over third seeded American pair of Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond in the semis. Interestingly, in the past, Sania has partnered both Huber and Raymond.
