Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova could never knew have guessed the price of not knowing cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Fanatical Tendulkar fans could not accept the fact that she didn't know India's batting legend. They stormed her official facebook account with unsavoury comments about not recognising Tendulkar.
It all began on Saturday when the tennis queen was asked by a reporter whether she knew Sachin Tendulkar. Her curt reply was, "i don't." The cricket icon was at the Wimbledon Royal Box along with former England skipper Andrew Strauss and England soccer star David Beckham.
At her post-match press conference, one of the reporters asked Sharapova about the cricket icon who had come down to watch her match. Her reply was that she had met Beckham before, but did not know who Sachin Tendulkar was.
Sharapova's ignorance was too much for Tendulkar fans. They took it as an insult and stormed her facebook page with more than 50,000 comments by Thursday afternoon.
Sachin fans resorted to funny, incredulous and demeaning language on her official facebook post.
One of the milder posts said: “I was one of your biggest fans of you as a tennis star but now I will never see your matches.”
Another crazy Tendulkar fan posted a picture of the cricket legend touching the pitch and taking “it’s blessing”. And Sharapova is shown with her leg on the net. The post was instructive to Sharapova. Read it...

Other fans of Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter with their foul languauge threats. Twitter users posted #whoismariasharapova hashtag, that began trending soon on the micro-blogging site.
However, there were some sensible Indians who urged netizens not to get personal with Maria Sharapova for not knowing Sachin Tendulkar. They justified her ignorance to not taking interest in the game, which is not a crime.
