Are you preggers? Then there will be a lot many advises from doctors, kith and kins asking you to stay away from gorging on fish citing dangers of mercury.

While it's not a sham altogether, missing out on fish during pregnancy could be like missing out in a whole lot of awesome nutritional benefits.

Fish furnishes the body with high quality protein, vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids and even vitamin D.

A minimum intake of at least eight-twelve ounces, which is like two to three servings, every week of a variety of fish that are low in mercury could largely benefit fetal growth and development.

That said, expecting mothers should strictly steer clear of four types of fish that are irrationally high on mercury. Tilefish, shark, swordfish and king mackeral are a complete no-no for mums-to-be.

Also, women carrying babies in their wombs must not gorge on more than six ounces of white tuna per week. Also, be wary of eating fish caught from streams, rivers and lakes. If eating at all, make sure you don't eat that particular catch more than three ounces in a week and avoid all other fishes in that week.

Also, pregnant woman should steer clear of eating raw fishes like sushi since they might contain microbes that might spell danger for your fetus.

If craving for fish at all, load up your plates with lower-mercury options like cod, shrimp, light canned tuna, tilapia, catfish and salmon (recommended serving is 2-3).
