Not getting enough shut-eye? Watch out! You could be exposing yourself to the risk of developing cancer that way.

Compromising on sleep not only raises your risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and obesity but also cancer. Sleep is one of the most important requirement of the body. When you skimp on sleep, you put yourself at the risk of a host of illnesses that could cost you your life in the long run. To ensure that you get your 7-8 hours of shut-eye and lead a healthy life, pay heed to these health tips:

  • Sleep for a minimum of seven hours in a day. Also try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.

  • Think you could recompensate for your 4-5 hours of sleep dring the week with longer sleep duration during the weekend? Remember that the damage done by lack of sleep cannot be reversed. Even afternoon naps aren't enough to make up for the loss of a good night's sleep.

  • Hit the sack happily, with a peaceful mind. Emotional distress during bedtime could impede the quality of your sleep leaving you with insomnia or poor sleep.
