The Supreme Court on Friday pronounced its verdict on the entry of women of menstrual age in Sabarimala temple, Kerala and said law and society are tasked with the task to act as levelers.
In a 4:1 verdict, the top court granted women between the age of 10 to 50 entry into Sabarimala temple, breaking temple's antique tradition of restricting menstruating women from entering its premises.
Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra headed the five-judge constitution bench. In four sets of judgments, CJI Misra wrote for himself and Justice A M Khanwilkar, while Justice Indu Malhotra gave a separate dissenting verdict.
