Indian Badminton players Kidambi Srikanth and B Sai Praneeth are geared up for the Singapore Open Super Series semifinals on Saturday (April 15) after registering contrasting victories in their quarter final clashes on yesterday
The semi-final clashes have started at 11:30 a.m. IST and Srikanth’s match is lined up as the 5th and the last match at Main Location-1, while Pranneth’s match is scheduled as the 4th match at Location-2.
Srikanth defeated Shi Yuqi of China - 21-14, 21-16 in 36 minutes to set-up semi-final clash against Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who defeated Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent 21-19, 21-14.
Praneeth took one hour 11 minutes to beat eighth-seeded Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand- 5-21 21-14 21-19 in quarterfinals.
Praneeth will face Korea’s Lee Dong Keun in the semifinals.
The Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold finalist Indian entered the quarters after defeating Wold No. 23 Qiao Bin 21-15, 21-23, 21-16 on Thursday. He started his Singapore Open campaign by beating Denmark’s Emil Holst 17-21, 21-7, 21-19 in a 64 minute match.
Rio Olympic silver medalist, PV Sindhu lost to arch-rival Carolina Marin in the quarter final on Friday. The Spainard exacted revenge for her loss at the final of Indian Open earlier this month with a comprehensive 21-11, 21-15 win.
Ashiwni Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy exited the mixed doubles quarter finals after they lost to the third seed Chinese pair of Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong 11-21, 8-21.
