As Indian cinema enters the second century of its existence, the National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC) will display the rich heritage of the past 100 years. Manish Tewari, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, recently announced that the museum will open in Mumbai next month in February.

Tewari was speaking at an awards function when he said that the national museum of Indian cinema is a tribute from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to the film industry, which contributed the rich heritage to India.

The minister stated that a National Film Heritage Mission has been launched at a budget of Rs. 600 crore to archive and digitise the best works of Indian cinema for use by the future generations.

The history of Indian cinema can be easily understood by a visit to the museum. Designed with interactive galleries, the museum will help patrons to trace the evolution of Indian cinema from the Lumiere Brothers, RajaHarishchandra, Alam Ara, and so forth.
