Story
Gunday is the story of two young men Bikram (Ranveer Singh) and Bala (Arjun Kapoor), who have migrated to Calcutta from Bangladesh. People don’t allow them to forget that they are from Bangladesh by calling them refugees. So they turn into coal bandits, who are angry young men, and kill anyone who call them refugees.
Both the men are the biggest Gunday of Calcutta. Life seemed smooth for Bikram and Bala till they come across Nandita (Priyanka Chopra), the beautiful cabaret dancer, to whom both lose their heart. The interest of the duo in Nandita, lead to conflict between the two young men and ACP Satyendra (Irrfan Khan) is in the lookout to arrest them for a mistake. Eventually their conflict over Nandita leads to their downfall.
Analysis :
Gunday filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar has narrated the story in the 70s cinematic style filled with one liners. The conflict in the film seems unconvincing. Bikram and Bala’s decades of friendship is torn apart over their obsession with a common woman. The film’s conflict factor lacks conviction and seems imported. The script is predictable, but ‘Gunday’ is not a bad film. The camaraderie between Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor is great and reminds you of Sholay’s Jai-Veeru. Priyanka is gorgeous and beautiful in her role as Nandita, The most outstanding part in the film is the scheming cop, who plots the gradual destruction of the two Gunday. This film holds your attention though at times it tends to be mundane. But it can be endured for the entire length.
Performance :
Ranveer Singh in the role of Bikram is perfect. The actor seems to be cut out for the role and his impulsive vein works for this role. Singh looks sexy without much effort. Arjun Kapoor is intense and brimming with emotions. But he seems relatively inexperienced when pitted with Ranveer. Priyanka Chopra looks gorgeous in her role as a cabaret dancer. She acts well as the conflict factor between Bikram and Bala. Irrfan Khan is a pleasure to watch and is the most interesting part to look forward in the movie. He delivers the role of a shrewd cop with great charm.

Watch Gunday for the ample oomph in the movie and its bombastic dialogue.
